Personally, I chose Garrison for a number of reasons. I agree with mobius that Garrison has a dark side (don't we all?). It is also because the way he behaves.
When we first see Garrison, he is a messed up drunk, feeling very sad. He shrugs aside the awesome Monika (especially after she offered to break into the prison of which Garrison worked very hard to get those enhanced criminals into.) So he also has a good sense of humour. But it's more than that.
When Garrison hears of the disaster caused at Aramus' house, he suddenly leaps into action. He becomes the detective, searching for clues, to save the daughter of our beloved Aramus. Then when he finds out that Gully is safe, after the confrontation with the two powerhouses, 'bretto and Knolan. What's striking is that he decided to save Gully without using his sword, kinda like mercy. When he is satisfied that Gully is in safe hands, he decides that he will leave, after saying goodbye to his beloved Vionna.
But to his surprise, his great teacher teaches him a final lesson and that sends Garrison into action again. This seems to give him a new lease of life. But the sword seems to affect him in a negative way, so he's gotta struggle.
Anyway, I like all the characters, but Garrison's on the top, in my view.

Hi Madman!, I was surprised that you like Monk Brass Demur for a number of reasons: He is the type of character that this world needs LESS of. 1. Brass Demur is a savage (he crushed that High Order Monks skull at Skyhold when he escaped) 2. Brass Demur is merciless (he used his super strength on Lars at Outpost Zeta, smashing him) 3. He's a terrorist (he laid seige to the city resulting in many innocent deaths, just to get his vengeance on Garrison) 4. He is arrogant (in thinking he can defeat the powerful Garrison) 5. He is ignorant (he didn't learn his lesson the first time) We can clearly see that these characteristics are needed in less quantities on this earth Although Brass Demur has a nice physical appearance, his character is evil. This world needs more Gullies, Knolans, 'Brettos and Garrisons (and maybe Monikas

Yes I agree with you that the world needs less people like him. I picked him because I thought the character had a really interesting design with the tattoos...not because of his behavior.

I am with Madman!, I always thought Brass Demur was awesome, his visual design and his character, he makes a great villain. I love the Borrower creature and Bulgrim too as far as villains go in BC.
As for the heroes, my favorite has to be Garrison.

Yeah, I must admit, that I was amazed when I first saw him (Brass Demur). That team of artists was breathtaking: Liquid! had done a great job in enhancing the effect of those tattoos (markings). McWeeney also done a great job with the inks. And Mad! had done an awesome job in showing him as a mountain of muscle with good fighting techniques (especially how he managed to catch Garrisons sword! Wow! ) That battle kinda reminds me of David, peace be upon him, and Goliath. Both defeated their seemingly invincible foes with skill. Great stuff, it makes us hunger more for Mad! art
