I was looking at artist Lesean Thomas' Deviant Art page the other day and he has been working on an original graphic novel for his Cannonbusters series that is due out soon. He mentioned in some comments how it was nice to work without deadlines and give the book the love it needed and produce a product he was happy with on his own terms.
This got me thinking how cool it would be if Joe did a long Battle Chasers graphic novel to wrap up the story, or a series of graphic novels to continue the epic. He could work on them at his own pace and finish the story and/or continue it on his own terms. Seems like this is a format that would make more sense than a monthly comic. He could self-publish or easily find a major publisher to promote and release the work.
Just a thought, wonder if Joe has ever considered it.

Oddly enough I was just thinking about it today. It would be very, very, VERY far off. Did I mention very? Unless I can get Lesean to draw it. man, he rocks.

I love Lesean's work, but Battle Chasers has got to be all you, Joe! At least the main story, side stories and one-shots would be really cool to see other amazing artists on.

Well, i'm sure we all hope that we get some sort of ending or closure at least to the Battlechasers saga as I think that's when you began to truly shine with the story and character creation for me and sucked me right in! I truly hope one day you will have the chance to work on some more, and the graphic novel idea may truly be an epic way to end the epic series.

Me, I'd love to see Olivier Coipel work on it. Granted, I think it'd be hard as hell tearing him away from Marvel, especially them giving him such high profile gigs like House of M or his current run on Thor.

It's a Mad! world.
Seriously only Mad! should touch BC and even on a spinoff series. I like Lesean's work but it just wouldn't be the same. Even with maybe Francis Manapul he can get close to the Mad! style but it's not the same either.

But, I have to admit that I love Coipel's work and he has a vibe that's similar to Madureira's, but with a bit more of a European vibe to it. here's some of his Thor pages

well there are really a lot of great comic book artists, ok, not great as Joe Mad!, but what about Humberto Ramos, or Chris Bachalo, or Francis J. Manapul!

I feel Chris B's work has become a little too loose these last few years...His characters seem to lack a certain solididty. Humberto Ramo's style seems to have lost some of it's weight too (I recommend you look up a couple of amazing episodes he did for xfactor, one of his issues was the first comic I ever bought there's two in particular that were amazing but dammit all I forgot the issue numbers. One told how shard joined the xUe a clandestine group within the xse and the second showed Mystique in her life as a senator's wife. ) I'm definetely in the "only Mad for BC" camp.

i agree with garn and MADMAN. BC should only be done by Mad! its his creation, but seriously....i think we should just let Battle Chasers go u know....so far Mad! has been "torturing" us about continuing BC when he's not so i think he means it. its either that or a new comic book concept. honestly there's no point hoping to see BC 10 not to mention the conclusion of the book when Mad!'s insinuating that its not gonna happen. it pains me as much as its gonna pain fans of BC....but its the truth.

I think I'm starting to feel the same way Artxtra feels. If Darksiders is a hit (which it will be), we might as well say goodbye to Battle Chasers. I just don't see Joe leaving what he's doing and apparently really loves to continue a book that has been gone for almost a decade. Unless joe is secretly drawing BC on spare time and he's like on issue 20, I really don't see it happening.
The only way I see BC ever coming back is in game format. THQ does have the rights to it and if darksiders prove to be the hit it's looking to be then I don't see why THQ wouldn't fork up the money for a BC game.

even labSOUND"s still hoping for BC!its good in bad way u know, anyways i know that videogame(darksiders) is gonna rock but not gonna console us over AN INCOMPLETE BATTLE CHASERS! i hope Joe sees this cos he should know that Mad! fans in Nigeria are not happy with what he did to BC.

I don't think we should give up on BC. I just think we should be realistic on it coming back. If BC ever did come back, which it always could, everyone would know. It wouldn't be on some obscure comic news website or some blog. Joe would announce it in a big way probably a cover and an article in Wizard or on IGN, Newsarama, etc. It isn't going to be some fan's friend that knows Joe I've actually got several of those emails.
I also think if it does come back, it would come back as a couple issues first and then a game. If it were a game I think it would have to have some animations done by Joe as cutscenes..it really isn't BC if it isn't Joe's art. I remember reading on the old official boards and other places that BC's story was too simple, while I love the story and like the fact that it's simple, I think if another artist came up with the series it wouldn't be as popular or as good even if it was exactly the same story and characters.
I will follow Joe's art wherever he goes. I remember when I used to go to art school and I took the bus home, when an issue of BC came out, I would have to run from school almost a mile up hill to the comic book store. Then run back to the bus and almost be late and I remember that happened almost every time an issue came out. Then I would sit on the bus holding my bag like it was a baby so no one would bump my bag and mess up the books. Then when I got home it was like opening the best Christmas present ever. It still is the same way now, specially since Ultimates came out. The only difference is for the game art since it's posted online it just isn't the same as holding a book, but I still get just as excited to see what Joe comes up with.
I don't mind if Joe wants to be in the game would just as long as he comes back to comics every once in awhile like he did with Ultimates and since he did that I don't see why BC wouldn't eventually come back for a few issues too.
Keep hope alive just don't go crazy or get angry just because it isn't happening right now.

If it were a game I think it would have to have some animations done by Joe as cutscenes..it really isn't BC if it isn't Joe's art. I guess if he does that, it would be really good marketing for the game. I honestly don't see Joe drawing this entire series if he has to deal with Vigil Games also. The only way would be to finish it up as a game. Let's say he does that right after Darksiders, we wouldn't see that game till like 2013 or more. we waited this long a couple more years is not going to hurt ;D.
