I've been looking at these boards for months and today, I'm finally a member! I'm so happy to be a part of this community, Joe Madureira is my favorite! Let me tell you my journey to get here:
I was into comics alot in the 90s but around 1998/1999, my attention turned towards anime and that became the main field I was interested in. That lasted until about late 2006 where I grew bored of it. I heard about the New York Comic Con that was going to be held in February 2007 but since I wasn't into comics or anime, it would have felt pointless to go. But, having gone to the Comic Con in 2006, I knew that the experience is very fun. So I tried to get myself back into comics so that there'd be something I'm interested in when I go.
Over the years I've been collecting PSM magazines and my favorite part has always been the inside cover where they show you the steps that the artist went through to get to the cover art. Out of all the PSMs, the Devil May Cry 2001 (or 2002?) cover drawn by Joe Mad has always been my favorite and so in February 2007 I finally looked him up in wikipedia. I was intrigued by the fact that he was only 16/17 and already working at Marvel! I asked about him on gamefaqs and mostly got sour replies, so then I put his name in google search and this site came up.
I was amazed at the hundreds of artworks on here by him and seeing that checklist made me ecstatic because now I could get the comics that he worked on. The first 2 ones that I got it turned out he only drew the covers (the checklist didnt mention that) but the comic book store agreed to take back my comics and I got ones that he did the interiors for. Incredible stuff!! That comic book store didnt have much of his works so I went to comic book stores all over Manhattan and picked up issues of Uncanny X-Men from all about. I got some issues at the Comic Con and many more in the months since then, but then I had nearly all of his Uncanny X-Men stuff. So then I started getting his Excalibur and Battle Chasers works from online and I've been so impressed that Joe Mad has officially become my favorite artist!
Well that's my story, sorry if it was long. Now that there is only a few issues on the checklist left that he did the interiors for that I dont have, I'm anxiously awaiting the Ultimates 3 I hear he will be penciling Long live Joe Mad!!
