I think he does have natural talent but also, what other things did he do? Like did he use art books and such? Has he said what some of the art classes he took were? Do they get to do life drawing if they are under 18? It's just amazing that he was drawing so well when he was 16/17 and I'm turning 21 and my drawings are nowhere near as good!

It's practice bro.
There is no replacement for hard work, research and study.
I once asked a teacher in college, "how will I know when I am becoming a better artist?"
His reply, "do 100 drawings and around the 99th drawing, things should start making sense."

Joe once mentioned (it's the the BC gallery of sketches) that he did thousands of sketches when he was in high school. A thousand? I didn't even sketch everyday back when I was in high school.

Oh yeah I think I remember that. Battle Chasers #9 at the sketchbook section right? He says that he did thousands of drawings all over his notebooks and exams, and jokes about doing an entire issue in papermate pencil. Man I have to draw alot more often then! I wonder if he was drawing characters and such or if he was drawing general things too like shapes or things that were in front of him. I hope he comes to New York Comic Con next year so I can meet him |

Well, at school I took a bunch of life drawing classes but I never had the discipline to do it on my own time very often. I think that's something Joe did at an early age. He started drawing and drawing. Plus I think he went to an art High School and then got exposed to the people at Marvel. Besides all that, he was born talented and with hard work he is one of the best. I wish I could see more of his newer stuff though. It be cool if he had a blog and post a bunch of sketches. Man, I can't wait for Ultimates 3...
