i never met him in person but from what i read about him and his works i really did have a huge appreciation for him as an artist my first glimps into his art was during joe's work on the x-men phallanx(sp) took over the shi'ar - and my god when i saw rogue - i was like - this guy knows what i love and took that and put it into lines and lines that completed the figures - etc - so i started collecting comics! - yes joe mad got me into collecting comics - 1) mainly for the art and 2) the story but his art was/is just amazing! - anyways - i started going back and collecting his other x-men run - totally dig all of his stuff - then battlechasers came out! alll i have to say - is wow - that is siiick! then he disappeared... i managed to get some of his snippets from his random stuff - like game art concepts and his take on streetfighter with udon - and taskmaster but never a full series - which is fine - u were out doing some vidgames i did end up following other artist - mike turner/campbell/jimlee for a bit - while i was waiting for his return - and he did - i just want to say - so far - your ultimates run is very awesome! i am glad you are back and please consider staying for a while - in comics i mean just want to say thanks as well for being one of the most awesome artist ever and inspiring a whole bunch of us for art / comics / vidgames / etc cheers!

Well I hope I can meet him this month at the con. I'm sure if he does some sketches there's gonna be a huge line! That's how it is was with Jim Lee last yr at San Diego. I didn't get one but I'll definitely wait a couple hrs for a Joe Mad sketch.

I met joe in the dank dark cafeteria in the High School of Art and Design back in 90' and hung out with him and my friend Kevin Charles for many lunch hours talking about comics. He was an amazing artist even then.

Joe use to live in NY and visit Grasshoppers Comics back in the early 90's. He was a quiet guy that did not want attention drawn to him so when customers were there, we kept him anonymous. Joe had signed a few books he had drawn for Marvel and sometimes would personalize them. I hope Joe is doing fine and if he has a chance to stop by Myrtle Beach, he is welcome!

I was introduced to Joe's art by Uncanny X-Men 330, which my dad picked up for me at a highway rest stop. My only exposure to X-Men had been the animated series, so I was trying to figure out why Wolverine had bone claws, why Gambit had droopy hair that didn't stick straight up, and why nothing looked like what I saw on TV. So I was a bit put off at first (by the characters and the art), but I became a convert to Joe's style and started picking up X-Men regularly (as well as any back issues that Joe had done). Ever since then, he's been my all-time favorite artist, and I'm fortunate enough to own a few pieces of art from his run on X-Men.
As for the first time I met him, that'd be last week at SDCC 2008. I went to three of his signings to get sketches, comics signed, and to just meet the man who had drawn so many of my favorite comics. I was nervous as anything about meeting him, so I probably didn't leave the greatest impression each time. But since I was picking up a sketch for Nathen, I was fortunate enough to get to watch Joe draw for the better part of an hour. And that's an experience I'll always cherish.
