Hello everybody, Long time Joe Mad fan. When I just got started getting interested in comics, I picked up a few issues of X-men back when Joe did the art for them and I was immidiately hooked on his style. I'm a HUGE BC fan, and I usually try and get my hands on whatever he draws. Ok...so heres the problem: I'm sure you've heard of it. It's a website called Deviantart www.deviantart.comPeople can post artwork, photographs, just about anything they want here. I was trolling around and I found this one artist's page. His/her art looked promising, so I saved his page as a favorite. Later, I looked into his gallery of artwork, and saw some art that I know I had seen elsewhere. Turns out he just colored his own version, so...I'm fine with that. Upon looking FURTHER into his gallery, what do I see but the old Devil May Cry pic that Joe did a while back for PSM!!!! The guy doesn't even credit him for it, and to be honest....the picture looks like it was stolen from a website. Here's the link: www.deviantart.com/deviation/12903196/I need to report this, but I need to have a link to an original drawing. Is there anyway you could help me out? I hate people who pull crap like this. Much appreciated if you could help Madman! A loyal Mad! fan, Jeff

Well DA is a huge place that has thousands of people and most seem to rip Mad's stuff, but in this case if your just talking about the Devil May Cry pic it looks like he was just coloring it and he did leave Mad's sig on it and a lot of people just color over his stuff and that's fine. If he like said he colored it and draw all of it... then yeah that's a problem. You should see the one I found on the new Street Fighter controllers. Erik from Udon explained why the company used his image. As you can see it happens in the professional world and I complained too, but it seemed there wasn't anything that could be done. Plus most people on the shoryuken boards don't really consider it a rip eventhough the Erik guy said the artist did copy Mad's drawing and the people didn't really care anyway. It's like the whole Roger Cruz thing....yeah everybody agreed he swiped Mad big time but nobody ever said anything and just let the dude continue in the comic world. For me not even being a Joe Mad fan but just a struggling artist finding anyhting even close to anyones art that's been swiped I find disgusting and the people doing it shouldn't be hired again...If they were hired to just copy the picture why not just have the original artist just do it for them instead of hiring someone with obiviously no talent or skills. So you can see I'm definitely with you but in the case of the picture you mentioned it's okay as long as he just said he colored over mad's stuff....unless there was others I didn't see, but if your looking for rips deviant art will keep you busy.

I just dont get it. I remember a long time ago after being SEVERLY PISSED at Cruz for drawing this one Fantastic Four comic (i swear you all, i literally, LITERALLY thought Joe Mad was doing a one-shot issue!!) and tricking me into thinking im gonna have a F.F book by Joe lol, i thought that swipers usually swipe the style and not the poses (i guess its generally both that are swiped). Swiping someones poses??, i mean down to the wire???. Thats horrible. I mean geez, at least master the art of reference drawing. Sheesh......im too old for this lol...

Some one ripping Mad!s works is just about an every day occurence. People know Mad! and his work. They are not going to dupped into buying someone else's book becuase they flat out steal his lineart. I wouldn't put any heart into that Dev account. 5 billions kids have tried to color that pic already, someone is bound to claim it as their own design.
