Okay, for all of yous out there who enjoyed the first two Spider-Man films, I think that you will enjoy this one as well...just maybe not as much. See, although a good film, it seemed as though director Sam Raimi was trying to please all the fans by cramming as much into this potentially last Spider-Man film of his instead of staying true to what made the first two films great...the emotion. Plus, they had so much from the first to movies to build on and it seems like they just threw in stuff instead of going with what they had.
From the surface, the story seemed like it would go over well with fans. I mean come on, you have three villains in this film...Sandman, Venom, and the return of the Green Goblin but this time, Harry takes over the reigns. I was disappointed with a few things in this movie but more so on how they handled Venom. He was a villain that deserved not to share the spotlight with two other villains and by doing so, could have develope more of a story for one of Spidey's most viscious villains.
Tobey Maguire did yet another good job of playing Peter Parker. The supporting cast was pretty good as well (minus Harry's butler. wtf???). Definitely a great job on Sandman. I really liked his character. Probably my favorite villain of the movie franchise. Well, either him or Doctor Octopus. Anyway, the directing was very good, especially the homages to Evil Dead. I kind of hope that Raimi decides to retire from the Spider-Man franchise. I would like to see what else he's capable of. There's talk of him doing The Hobbit. That would be interesting...
Anyway, at times the movie felt a little too campy and the fight scenes were well done but with three villains, well, they could've been longer. The relationship factor in the movie was a little bland as well. Maybe it's because I dislike Kirsten Dunst, but I just didn't feel it. The audience is supposed to care for these characters but in this film, there is just too much going on. Oh, and not many of yous will like the ending that well.
I think the main reason everyone is coming out of this movie disappointed is because their hopes are set a little too high. Its a summer blockbuster movie and you should kind of expect the flaws and stuff. Go in to it to have fun and try not to nit-pick at it so much. I personally liked this movie. With all it's flaws and short-comings, I still enjoyed myself and maybe you will too...?
Those of you who have seen it...what'd you think of it?
