I say we put our very own Sean on the team for colors. Check out his work in the art section of this forum if you haven’t already.

I'm not really digging it. To me the art team kind of takes away from Mad!'s art and takes away from what a comic book should look like. Don't get me wrong, it is good, but I like when there was an inker along for the ride. Is there gonna be an inker? From the Venom image, it doesn't look that way. As for colors, I like what was going on in the early Battle Chasers. It was a lot less darker. But then again, I've only seen a few images of Ultimates 3...

hi maverick!, i seem to be on the other side of that coin. see, i think inks can severely damage Joes pencils. cause more often than not the pencils look loose and leave alot to the inkers abilities. there in lies the loss of Joes originals. tim townsend and tom mcweeny are the two of the few who can grasp what makes his talent so special. with no inker, we are gonna see EXACTLY what he wants us to. i would consider it a gift that they left ink out of it. jeph loeb has been quoted saying he writes stories that cater to the artist. ultimates 3 is going to be every MAD! lovers dream come true.

I totally agree with you on the fact that Townsend and McWeeny were the only two inkers worthy of inking Mad!'s stuff, but I still don't like the coloring (at least, so far) of Liquid!. I did during Battle Chasers, though. It just seems to be darker now. At least for the Venom image. I'm probably being too critical. I liked the colorist that did Joe's Captain America piece. I think it was Udon, but could be mistaken. Anyway, like I said before, we'll just have to wait and see. I've never been dissappointed with Mad!'s art capabilities.

Christian Lichtner's (sp?) coloring I have gotten used to. Though I stull would of loved a colorist like Justin Ponsor (the colorist of the Cap piece) or Dave McCaig (colorist of Ultimate Wolverine and Hulk and Nextwave). Especially McCaig's coloring because alot of times is bright animation like, which would suit Joe's art.

Good call, Dave. I totally agree with you. And thanks for giving me the names of those colorists.

I know I'm late on this one but...I love Tim's inks, he is AMAZING!!! But back when he was inking Jason Martin was the man!!!! It's a tough one but I would say Jason! For colors, well... me!, of course....but in reality Liquid! and Joe Make an Amazing team.

Oh yeah! At first I kinda doubted Liquid, because it took me a bit longer to warm up to the coloring on the Venom vs Black Panther pic, but after seeing the Onslaught Reborn pic, I know that it's going to kick butt.
But hopefully, when the book sees print, we'll be able to see some of the pencilled pages to look at as well.

I'd like to say that I don't agree with the notion that Tim Townsend and Tom McWeeny are the only inker's for Joe Mad's art. I think that I could list at least 10 other inkers that could do a great job with his art, with different results but as good as these inkers. I do agree that Tim's inks are probably the one's that worked best with Joe Mad and his style is great for a classical superhero genre, but for Battle Chasers his inks wouldn't have the same result as Mcweeny's because it needed the more organic and rustic feel of a fantasy book that Tim's inks lack. Therefor the settings of the comic book should influence the choice of the inker, an not the art style in itself.
Still, out of curiosity, I'd like to see Joe's pencils inked by artist that worked with him in his beginnings. Inkers such as Dan Green and Terry Austin.
As for Color the only one that can rival with Chris Litchner is, in my very personal opinion, Brian Haberlin. But Steve Buccellato also did a great job over Joe's pencils in the X-men.

my opinion is that I would love it if there isn't a inker only the pencils and the colours - you've all seen that MAD's pencils are really clean and just ready to be coloured they don't really need inks , the last two images we saw from him the onslaught cover and the ultimates sample pic were only pencils and colours I think it will be like that in the books too (ok I don't think but I'm hoping for it to be like that)

it almost seems like the thick outlines in both venom and onslaught images are black ink...were these penciled and chris just colored them black?

I don't think chris coloured them black - you can do many stuff on the pencills before they are ready for colouring one Brightness/Contrast and it's ready to be coloured and besides the colours that chris used are kinda dark-ish so they give a little more darker look for the pencils no big mistery
