I picked up Ultimates #1- Black and White, you know, the all pencilled version, today. Firstly, as you all can attest, IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!!! Can I just tell you, it has been a nearly life-long dream to see what Joe's pencils look like from cover to cover. How does his style hold throughout the entire book? It's cool to look in on this part of his process. I got up and headed out to the shop, fearing that it would be sold out by the time I got there. I know how these haters are, they say: Joe sucks!! his storytelling this....his panel layout that... I hate him, yap yap yap" then next thing you know, everything with his name on it is selling out like crazy. I always think that's weird. I was safe though, it was in my 'pull' box , which I forgot. I picked up 2 more for my brothers as well. If you still got time, you all should head over and pick it up,
you
will
not
be
disappointed!!!
ya boy,

I'm gonna go to my comic shop right after work. Your post was a reminder for me. By the way I saw him this past Saturday at WWLA but the line was too long and I didn't get a chance to meet him. Bummer I hope he goes to Comic Con in July.

Picked this up today, both covers. Its too awesome to have an entire issue of Joe's pencil, certainly a longtime fan's dream come true. The work looks very cool in it's raw form. Joe's stuff certainly appears rougher than I expected, but he has said several times that he has been loosening up for this book. I think the pencil book shows Joe's strength and also shows how much Chris Lichtner brings to the work and he should be commended up and down for his contributions. These guys are the best art team in comics, d**n shame they're only here for 5 issues!
One odd thing about my copies, not sure if anyone else experienced this...several pages were printed twice. I didn't mind the extra pages so long as none were missing. Odd print error though.

I got mine yesterday and all the pages look amazing. I only wish it had that pencil color because right now it looks dark and it looks sort of like ink. Of course it's ink because that's how it's printed but you can find some of his pencils in the gallery and I was hoping it would be like that. His work also looks a lot more "loose" and I like that a lot. There's tons of detail that I didn't notice before and I could still see how Lichtner enhanced every page. I went to the comic shop and that's the only book I got. Definitely a must have for any Joe Mad fan.

That's because according to the Madureira/Loeb panel from WWLA (which you can find at www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=13389) he's using a standard HB lead (the same as a #2) instead of the 2H or 3H pencils that he used to use.

That's what came to mind when I looked at the pages. I thought he used a darker pencil. Well they look good either way and thanks for the link.

I like it, but I think the pencils looked even better when they were lighter, like in the penciled pages we saw prior to #1's release in December. They look good dark, but looker great lighter!!

I knew something was bothering me about the B&W edition, now you guys have made it clear, the pencils are a bit too dark. The pencil pages we have seen here on this site and elsewhere look nicer to me on screen than the way they printed in the B&W edition. The book is still very cool but they should have tried to really show how the pencils look. Maybe they will do a special B&W harcover with all the issues and make it more true to the pencils!

I wasn't able to track down a copy of this. The comic is sold out at the local comics shops around here. It's a bad thing because I can't get a copy of it. But it's also a good thing because it's shows just how popular the series, and Joe Mad is.

Deam I have no Idea of what I'm going to do is something beyond the forum rule but I ask a honest apologize before anything else but is some chance to someone scan the entire issue of the black and white version of ultimates 3 issue 1, cause you have no idea how badly i want to see that comic, I just read some stuff about the ultimates, I never had the chance to see even an entire issue of this series, but an entire pencil comic draw by Mad is like heaven to me, please I say a really sorry, but put your self on my place, I have no chance to buy that comic cause here there's no comic shop in the entire country, is a sad situation, please Madman if I do something wrong here in the forum, I apologize, just say sorry for the request, and please don't hate me, I'll pay you all, if had the chance but I have no idea how. OK I hope not butter anybody, or look like someone who try to get something from you, I know is a hard comic to get, I'll never ask for something like this before, again I say SORRY TO EVERY ONE....
