For some mysterious reason it's takem me this long to see that the story being told in the third volume of the Ultimates is more of an X-Men story than an Avengers one. I mean just take out the Ultimates and throw in the X-Men. And take out Tony Stark's mansion and put in the X-Mansion. I mean, the villains are all basically X-Villains and you got Wolverine in their along with the Savage Land and Ka-Zar and his girl in there. I think that is why all the fans are having trouble adjusting to this story. You go from Millar and Hitch's version to what? an X-Men story? I personally enjoy this story so far and don't have a problem too much with it. It does go a little fast. Needs to slow down a bit and throw in more story. Yes, I love Joe's action sequences but you got to have more story than what is being told. Stretch it out a bit. Don't want to blow your load in the first minute. There is literally like a page or two of real story and the rest of the time it's action, action, action! But to call this the third volume of the Ultimates is just being stupid. So far it has little to do with the Ultimates. We'll see in issue five, though. And I have a feeling Captain America is Black Panther....Nick Fury is. We'll see.

The book does have an awful lot of X-men stuff going on!
I also agree that calling the book "Ultimates" at this point is a little iffy. This is why critics and fans have been so harsh, they are holding the book up in comparison to the previous volumes and it is just so utterly different in its content and creative team. I think the mini series would have been better off with a unique title all its own.
Anyway, I'm diggin' the book and can't wait for the conclusion! I wish Joe was doing some more comic book work soon, but Darksiders will be a cool treat.

As much as I love Ultimates 3, I can completely understand the anger some of the fans of Ultimates 1& 2 have, because of the shift in tone. Alot of them wished it was called just "Ultimate Avengers", so it wouldn't be the "same book" as the previous Ultimates. It's not really Joe Madureira who people have a problem with. They have more of a problem with Jeph Loeb's tone in the story, because alot of them were hoping for someone like Warren Ellis to write the book.

DaveCummings... I wish Brian K. Vaughn [LOST, Y The Last Man, Runaways] wrote The Ultimates 3 instead of Jeph Loeb... maverick1104... i agree... The Ultimates 3 is getting more X-Men-ish... Will wait for conclusion of the series...

I knew from the very beginning I was gonna get this series primarily for the art. Its not something I would usually do, but for Mad I make an exception. I can understand the fans anger, though some are extreme jaded fanboys who hate everything.
