This was two years ago, but anyway...
The only thing i didn't enjoy about Ultimates 3 was that Jeph Loeb did a lame story. However, you have to remember that Jeph lost his son. I can understand why he may be struggling with hie talent right now, and it may take a while before he puts out something like HUSH or Long Halloween [or IMO the first 2 volumes of Superman/Batman].
I totally understand what you mean though, but I think you're missing the point here. What about Joe? how do you think it feels to him? He left comics because he wanted to do something else, but he remains loyal to his fans and throws us this fantastic book, and it's 'not good enough?' What kind of nonsense is that man?
He leaves, you get mad. He comes back, you're not happy. He leaves again, and you're upset again. Is there ANYTHING he can do to make people happy? Not really. Admit it, you'd be unsatisfied no matter what he did.
How do you think that makes Joe feel? It's like "f**k man, they cry because I leave, and they cry because I come back." He works at a new video game company, which he's essentially carrying on his own shoulders. That takes up at least 80% of his time. Then, he's married AND has kids AND he took time to put out the best work of his career [with Ultimates 3] and it's not good enough? Be grateful man. Yea, the pencils were a little sketchy as the book progressed, but that's not a fair assessment considering his ridiculous workload. but the quality of his storytelling and detail is still WAY ahead of that in Battle Chasers. Of course he rushed the pencils here and there. He had no time to work on it, yet he STILL cranked out a fantastic, artistically speaking, book.
You know, he's coming back to do another comic, and Marvel will go ahead an announce it way before it's ready and then he'll have to rush through it and the fans will love it and hate it again and Joe will once again ask himself "What the hell is the point?"
Concerning the printing on his pencils, yea they just wanted something a little more polished i guess. I personally like the way pencils look when they're leveled like that. I think it could've gone either way.
Joe's my hero in both his art and his choice and career. I hope one day, if I'm successful in whatever I'm doing, but i decide I'm not passionate about it anymore, I hope I have the balls to take that gamble, and d**n the consequences for it.
No hard feelings man. I'm just ranting too.
