I sketch for a hobby and would like to start getting my work onto PC, to colour etc.
Could anyone point me in the right direction? What would be the best programs to use, the best way to get them onto PC etc... I'd be really grateful.

Get
1. A scanner 2. Photoshop (CS is the latest version, only works with WinXP though) 3. Books on shading/lighting and colour theory, colour sense.
Optional stuff: Tablet is highly recommended. Wacom is the brand if you're serious about your art. Painter, if you want the traditional medium style of digital painting.
If (big IF) you are an amateur, don't get a tablet (it's incredibly expensive) until you've at least tried out painting digitally. You may not like it. If you can, post up some of your work on the net so that people can give you some more relevant advice.

There's a couple links in the learning section in the links page. If you've learned to color like with real paint or markers(or whatever) then you really need to learn about layers and channels and stuff in Photoshop/Painter and those kind of tutorials are the ones I have in the links page. I would recommend staying away from tutorials that teach you like "here's my tut for skin color" cause each picture is different and there isn't a "magic color" in PS that makes good skin colors. Learn how to use the program and get some books on color and you'll do okay, it just takes time to get used to the program. For programs you can also get (if you have a PC) is Open Canvas..which I think is free..or there's a free version and a pay one..I'm not too sure, cause I have a Mac or I'd get it. There's also Alias Sketchbook Pro I'm not sure if it's any good or not but it's another program that's out there. Also about the Tablet and I do agree with Grey somewhat cause of the cost, but if you can afford it and are really serious about coloring on the computer, then you should really think about getting one. Coloring with a mouse is fine but you might not like that, getting a tablet will probably make it enjoyable more and less pain in your wrists...but yeah at first use a mouse. You can get a small one, I got a 4x5 Wacom and it wasn't to exspensive(like 60$) and it's fine you don't need a huge one...lots of pros use the small ones just as good as the big ones. Also If you have a laptop you can use the wacom and take you're laptop around town and draw from life...I wish I could do that.

If your gonna get some Gnomon dvds there's some good ones by Feng Zhu and Ryan Church on like how to color using the program..but if you gonna get a gnomon dvd about color I'd wait til the Craig Mullins ones come out..I know I'll be getting them for sure.
there's a good Syd Mead one too about color.
